High School Profile
Veritas Collegiate Academy
A Global-Centered Christian
Classical Education aimed at the
pursuit of truth and the training of
moral character .
Veritas is a Classical Christian school committed to the educational method of the Trivium. The Trivium, coupled with the later Quadrivium, was the educational
method used in Western Civilization to produce some of the greatest scholars that the world has ever known. It was first developed in ancient Greece, and was used hundreds of years before the birth of
Christ. The word Trivium refers to the first three of the seven liberal arts: grammar, dialectic, and rhetoric. It is a philosophy based on years of research of the stages of growth students naturally go through that corresponds with these three elements of learning.

Academic Rigour and Personal Growth
Desiring to bring true reform to an established Christian academy (founded in 1999), the founders, Sean & Maria Elgut, redefined the philosophy and methodology to embrace the Classical model of the Trivium set forth in the book, A Case for Classical Education. Veritas officially began in 2003 with a single campus, and is now a global community heading into its 23rd year.
Acceptance into the high school requires a family meeting with the headmaster and applicants for upper school will be interviewed. What the headmaster is looking for is that each student be a positive force in the high school, to have a consensual attitude toward the standards, policies, and practices of the school, and an academic astuteness for that which is taught in the classroom. This interview along with academic transcripts and letters of recommendation will be reviewed by an admissions committee made of the administrative team.
Stages
The Grammar Stage is the foundational stage, grades K-6. It presents the facts: the who, the what, the where, and the when, but not the why.
The Dialectic Stage is referred to as logic, grades 7-9. This phase is working to see the logical connections between the facts. It is teaching the students how to question things in a right manner. It is taking their natural inclination sat this age and directing their inquisitive minds to challenge the ideas through logical and principled- thinking.
At the Rhetoric Stage, grades 10-12, students learn to express themselves in writing and in speech. They are expected to know the logic of the truth they believe and be skilled at articulating it to those of a different persuasion. The academic rigors of a Veritas education require each junior and senior to produce a 25-35 page thesis with presentation and defense of that thesis before professors at the local graduate school . In addition to this exposure, they have the opportunity to present and defend their thesis overseas before those of an opposing philosophical position. These experiences enable our students to reason from cause to effect and effectively communicate their ideas in a cogent manner.
